Early Holiday Present is Making A Mark

Making A Mark– authored by Katherine Tyrrell. Her stamp appears on many blogrolls that I scour and is often accompanied by high words of praise for her dedication to her art and the business of marketing art. She’s thorough, extremely knowledgeable and ( so unfair ) very talented. Generous with her readers too. You should have her bookmarked if you don’t already.

I’m a little late in responding to  this wonderful recognition on her blog which she posted last week ( See HERE ).

I was nominated twice for her year end “Best of ” Contest. She called for art bloggers to send in nominations for ” The Best Female Portraitist “, and best all around Portfolio.

Sue Smith of Ancient Artist ( in my blogroll at right ) nominated this one of mine for Portfolio:

From this previous post.

August Sun

august-sun-blog

Look into Sue’s blog for great motivational musings on keeping all the facets of an artists’ life on good speaking terms with each other. She’s not ancient at all. She’s open eyed wise.

The second surprise for me was a nomination by Paulette ( also in my roll ) of Becoming a Renaissance Woman.

Paulette’s use of colored pencil is wonderful. It was a search for roosters on the web that brought her to my blog where she found:

CaptuREDFrom this previous post and the goose bump story that was its’ narrative.

Thanks Sue, Paulette and Katherine. Really, the mention was  present  enough. The ribbons and bells of the outcome are secondary. What carries heft here is the exposure to fellow artists, and the daily gifts of shared information, support and the variety of creative expression that makes this format  as vital as it is to all of us.

Maybe another post before the new year, maybe just time enough to eat too much cake.

Happy Holidays.

Yay! I’m the first to congratulate you on your well- deserved honors. The sheer number of comments you regularly glean testifies to your growing influence.

  2. carolking Says:

Whoa! You are a star! Congratulations!

  3. judith wolfe Says:

Kudos and Chanukkah Chupcakes go well together. Mazel tov.

  4. Bonnie Luria Says:

Nancy- more comments than paintings, though. I need to crack down. Thanks for being one of the regulars in addition to being first.

Carol-not a star, maybe just a candle on a table somewhere, but thanks for saying it.

Judy-I like chupcakes AND Kudos. Even fruitcake. Thanks, friend.

  5. Paulette Says:

Hi Bonnie, I just love CaptuRED, it definitely deserves a nomination!
    Have great holidays!

  6. JoAnn Sanborn Says:

    Nice surprises, well deserved! Congrats!

  7. wrjones Says:

Whoa! You are a star! Congratulations!

    xoxoxoxoxoxoxox

I cut and pasted from Carol’s post, but added some more kisses and hugs which I think, legally, changes it from pure plagarism to something more benign.

    Have a wonderful Christmas!

  8. Marian Fortunati Says:

    Congratulations …… all well deserved

I wish you a warm and loving holiday!! -Love and laughter.

  9. w1kkp Says:

Seriously, I think you need to crack down, too!! We need some warmth and sun and you’ve got it all the time. I see that pool boy and rooster and they look warm. I demand more paintings. I’ll take care of the snow photography, you contribute the warm.

  10. Katherine Says:

Thanks for the plaudit Bonnie – and your paintings are obviously very popular!

  11. Sharon Crute Says:

Well deserved nominations. You know I adore the fluid brushwork and intelligent color sense of your paintings. Uh-huh, I’m your groupie.

Yes, the blogosphere is awesome and we make many new friends as a result. Your blog is an island of congenial good-humor and talent as I imagine St. Croix is. Warm and sunny and a visual feast.

FYI: when I click on the link to read about the post regarding captuRED, it requires that I sign in. Darn WordPress.

  12. Bonnie Luria Says:

Paulette- you really got this whole thing rolling so a big thanks to you. Wishing you a great new year of creativity.

Jo-Ann – thank you. It’s always nice to get a nod from you.

Bill- not a star, but happy with all you constellations checking on me regularly. Have a wonderful rant-less holiday. If you can.

Marian- much appreciated, you words and wishes. And the very same for you.

Pat- I’m doing what I can. Some days the muse is sticking out her tongue at me. Other days, it’s the finger.
I’m trying, really I am. Don’t want to disappoint you.

Katherine- thanks for leaving your note here. It means a lot coming from you.

Sharon- it tickles me to be of an age when someone wants to be considered a groupie of mine. Ha!
Your comments are as descriptive as your paintings.

I don’t understand how that sign in thing works or when it engages. Phooey.

  13. w1kkp Says:

Ok. Now, I feel like a harridan which I may be.
BUT BUT. Since you are also a photographer (you can no longer pretend you are not comfortable with that medium) while you are waiting for the painting muse you could show us a little of your physical world. NO MORE ANOLES, however. Honestly, I do sound like a witch. People who have not yet reached the age of reason are crazy about me but it does begin to fall off markedly as the years pile up. Just saying. Oh, it’s really, that I’m just hoping.

  14. Sue Says:

You’ve earned the recognition Bonnie. The tough part was deciding which painting I liked the best. Oh, and thanks for pointing out that I’m…ah…not ancient. :>)

  15. Jala Pfaff Says:

I particularly like your paining August Sun. I’ve noticed you use a lot of vibrant red in your paintings. You use it well! Thanks for all the kind sentiments about my cat, by the way. Much appreciated. Much as I will miss him, I am glad I no longer am worried all the time about how he is feeling, how much pain he’s feeling, etc. And yep–still painting! It’s good therapy…for many things.

  16. Bonnie Luria Says:

Pat- I feel your prods. And the gentle shiv of encouragement in my soul.
And thank you for them, good witch.

Sue- not sure if it’s rightly earned ( see Pats comment to me! ) but I can say with certainty that I’m amazed and grateful.

Jala- a very astute observation from you because funny enough, those are my only two paintings where I used red in a predominant position. Serious red.
Most everything else muted. Maybe I ought to consider more red…

  17. nancy Says:

Bonnie, you are featured again today. I’m very excited for you!

  18. Paz Says:

    Congratulations! Yes, very well deserved!

    Merry Christmas! Season’s Greetings!

    Paz

  19. Jala Pfaff Says:

About the vibrant red you use, besides the two paintings here w/all the red, I was thinking of The Gatekeeper and the very intense red you’d used on his arm.

  20. solvay Says:

    Well-deserved – – – two engaging, expressive, character-capturing paintings!!!
Merry Christmas/Boxing Day……….hope it’s warmed up! We’ve been having rollercoaster temps, here. Weird.
    Solveg

  21. Bonnie Luria Says:

Paz, thanks and a very happy new years’ greeting to you.

Jala-you really pay attention to detail. That intense red is much less so in the painting. One of those photoshop anomalies.

Solveg- your words and comments are always appreciated. I know no one thinks we get weather changes here, but we do, and they’ve been as erratic here proportionately as the mainland.

Hope the New Year brings some good things to you.

  22. Katherine Says:

Bonnie – you were the only artist to be nominated for both awards. I hope that makes up for not making it to the shortlist for either. You were very definitely a contender!

I look forward to seeing you wielding more red paint next year!

  23. w1kkp Says:

    Whatcha doin”? Miss you.

  24. wrjones Says:

Happy new year, Bonnie. You might want to start the new year out with a painting?

  25. Bonnie Luria Says:

Katherine- just that alone makes me very happy. Can’t even describe it.

Thank you for being the forum for all of this.

Pat- this blogging audience is demanding, isn’t it?
I’m not slacking- just trying to get things in that have to be done while it’s not 93 degrees.

Bill- Happy New Year to you too. I might. Doesn’t mean I will but I certainly would like to.
If you’ll come here and take over my job as backyard foreman, groundskeeper/contractor, and do the heavy lifting, laying down of pavers, shoveling of gravel, and re-painting of bathroom before winter friends come, I’ll hop into my studio and bang one out just for you. And provide a mojito just for fun.
    Whaddya say?

  26. Nava Says:

How very cool – and well deserved!!

    *** HAPPY 2009 ***

  27. Bonnie Luria Says:

Nava ( has anyone called you “Navadad” (sp) during this season?), thanks for the note here and I too wish you a great and inspired 09!

  28. Theresa Rankin Says:

Congratulations…I knew you were star material the first time I laid eyes on your work! Your paintings sing and your writing is a dream. Your photographs are top notch…you are charmed! Now let’s get down to painting!! Teehee!!!

  29. Bonnie Luria Says:

Thanks so much Theresa- coming from you – painter/writer/kindred spirit, it means much to me.

Oh! I’m supposed to paint too?

    Next year………:-)

  30. solvay Says:

    Bonnie,
It was funny – I didn’t read the others’ comments til after I posted mine – I see I used the very regularly-featured, “Well Deserved,” phrase. I laughed out loud that so many of us chose the exact same phrase. I guess that emphasizes the truth of it on your behalf!
    : )
I’m hoping all these great comments have boosted your verve for painting (and for photographing), and given you just the fuel you need for starting off the new year in a creative spirit!
    Happy New Year,
    Solveg

  31. S. Le Says:

    Happy New Year!

  32. Bonnie Luria Says:

Solveg, It does my incentive good to read your words of ” boosted verve for painting “.
This was just the start I needed for the new year.
All the positive comments keep the creative spark fostered.

Hope you had a good foot in the door of 09 and for all of us, an uplifting look towards the year ahead.

I always find your comments so motivating and original.
Thanks for leaving your mark here.

    All the best to you.
    Bonnie
PS- there will be a new post soon, I promise…….

  33. Kelley MacDonald Says:

32 comments! I think you are the most ‘read’ blogger around! This is my first visit here, although I am joined at the hip with blogger Mary Sheehan Winn, who apparently tagged you – how could I have missed your fascinating blog? I love Larry, your weather reports (we DID have a wind chill in Rhode Island of -10 a couple of days ago!) and your beautiful, effortless-looking paintings. Thank you for sharing – I’ll be back!

  34. Bonnie Luria Says:

Hi Kelley- thanks for those wonderfully kind comments. I’ve had a look at your work and think it’s joyous, and so well done.

It’s funny about the tentacles of blogging and how we connect and who we connect to. If not careful, we could be viewing and commenting much more than we’re painting ( guilty….)

    Rhode Island winters- brrrrrrr..

Hope you’ll come back and visit again as I know I will.
