Meet: Cloud
Gauge scale of dog by size of laundry basket.
” You are kidding, puppy, “ I say to this face.
She ambushed me with her extreme cuteness and baby goat-like appearance. Could you pass this by if you saw it on the side of a road? Two days in the house and she’s already a lady.
A push and play puppy already assembled with amber eyes, Zen calm, smarts, sweetness and delivered by the spirits, maybe not coincidentally, on my birthday August 5.
Ears suitable for aircraft landing signals.
But as an artist, you can’t let yourself get poleaxed by sentimentality. Time to stop mooning over this puppy and concentrate on an art deadline coming up at the end of the month.
How am I doing so far?
Then there was THIS:
What was I supposed to DO?
I did the best I could- and here is the result.
Maybe tomorrow……..
But right now, I’m a little busy…….
As precious as Cloud is, and as lucky, there are far too many dogs and cats running feral, unwanted, abused and non-neutered here on St. Croix.
Support and encourage neutering and spaying programs wherever you can. Right here, we’re lucky to have The Sunshine Foundation, a non profit, educational outreach spay and neuter center within the walls of The Sugar Mill Veterinary Clinic. Their goal and message is to end pet overpopulation.
( just glad Cloud entered the population……..)

Can’t wait to meet Cloud! Maybe Cloud could give us some pointers for getting along with Kitties?? Adorable acquisition!
August 9, 2009 at 3:09 am |
OMG…. Can anything BE any cuter????? Your photos really captured a spirit!!!
August 9, 2009 at 3:40 am |
Congratulations, Bonnie. It sounds like she has you well trained already =)
August 9, 2009 at 6:16 am |
I got news for you Comrade, Cloud IS NOT A DOG. He is a lamb disguised as a dog. The ears are a dead give away.
August 9, 2009 at 6:17 am |
Sorry…SHE.
August 9, 2009 at 10:46 am |
Puppy breaks are a necessity when an art deadline is near. I am sure all of the great Masters took time out to ogle a puppy. Enjoy – they grow up quickly.
August 9, 2009 at 10:54 am |
Thanks everyone for recognizing that ” sappy ” is not an affliction.
August 9, 2009 at 12:17 pm |
Ah, the comfort of hope and renewal. Massages my own broken heart and gives me feel-good smiles. Kudos to you Bonnie and a belated happy (obviously) b-day.
There are no coincidences in this new story.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I’m in love with Cloud. What a cutie. How are cuba and the kitties dealing with the new puppy?
August 9, 2009 at 3:52 pm |
Such a cutie! Of course you couldn’t pass up a birthday gift meant to be. Much joy on both sides! The painting will come when it’s ready.
August 9, 2009 at 4:05 pm |
Aww! I’m in love. She’s a beauty. Glad you didn’t pass her up. Happy Birthday!
Hugs from NY,

Hi Bonnie,
You already know what I think of that little dog! A steal-your-heart-away animal. I notice in that last picture she already hangs with the kitty ok. A real birthday treat!
August 9, 2009 at 8:23 pm |
ps. is that hazy grey spot on the lower left of the canvas aaaahhh… maybe the beginnings of a “cloud”??
August 9, 2009 at 10:13 pm |
These photos are heavenly which as you know is filled with big poofy clouds, not lamb clouds, although…come to think of it…David might be right. Those ears!! That blank canvas may take a back seat for a few more poof days. I feel better just looking at this creature!
August 10, 2009 at 4:03 am |
What a beautiful creature to help you celebrate your birthday! Cloud is photogenic and I predict a portrait painting in this dear puppy’s future.
May you have many happy, healthy and artistic years with your new pup!!
Thank you for sharing such fantastically cute photos.

Heartbreakingly Cute!!!!
August 10, 2009 at 3:37 pm |
As my friend Darryn said about her ( he was here during the entire rescue week, and a catalyst for getting her and bringing her home ) ” she’s an old soul in a young puppy’s body “.
She is.
She reads your facial expressions, knows exactly what to do and when to do it, and gives space and pardons to the other 4 legged inhabitants of the house.
I’m astonished at her maturity and knowing.
And then there’s that face!!!!!!!!
August 10, 2009 at 5:42 pm |
Now see, from the pics on Facebook I thought her ears stood straight up like a chihuahua but they flop over making her uber-cute!
August 10, 2009 at 7:28 pm |
And I thought Jpeg was cute!!
Can’t wait to meet and cuddle and kiss Cloud!
August 10, 2009 at 9:58 pm |
OMG! Cloud sounds like the perfect pup. Her owner is an amazing photographer. Wish I was getting entries like that in my catch em being cute pet pose for a free portrait contest. I’d bug you to enter, but you can do the honors just fine.
August 10, 2009 at 10:34 pm |
She is absolutely adorable…I want one…I think…not!
I know you will love her to death, she couldnt of found a better Mom!
Love AjT
August 10, 2009 at 11:04 pm |
I’ll need to hear a decisive dog-like bark to believe she’s any dog, no doubt as david said, she’s part lamb…. and i think the other part is Aardvark, it’s the only way to explain those ears!
August 11, 2009 at 2:44 pm |
Oh Bonnie! So very cool! I’m so happy for you all!
August 11, 2009 at 7:13 pm |
How adorable!!! I wouldn’t be able to paint either.
August 12, 2009 at 3:55 pm |
Another one of life’s precious gifts and simple pleasures that makes us appreciate the beauty of it all.
Lucky you, Bonnie, and lucky Cloud too!
August 12, 2009 at 8:10 pm |
Oh my god, how cuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!! I think she looks like she has a little piggie snout.
So glad you found a new little friend. Sorry I’ve been remiss in my blog visiting, but as you saw, it’s not just Lynx who’s the excuse, it’s also the migraines and hayfever attacks.
Must talk about our non-virtual visit one of these days.
Your blog post cracked me up here, what with the little cloud piglet and the blank canvas. :DDDDD
August 12, 2009 at 8:14 pm |
P.S. Happy b-day! What did you do to celebrate it? (besides acquiring a baby piglet goatkid dog)
August 12, 2009 at 8:15 pm |
P.P.S. Does she not have a tail?
Or perhaps it’s a little curly piggie one? š

OK,OK so now I understand what W.C. Fields was getting at when he said he doesn’t perform with children or animals.
This could be the record for comments on this blog.
Conclusion:
Cloud is the scene stealer.
Art is waiting in the wings.
Thanks everyone for your funny, adorable, tickled as much as I am, comments and for returning here even though there’s not been a new piece to post in, well, a dogs’ age.

Mmmm, puppy as a blank canvas.
Don’t let Wim Delvoye find out.

Cutest little dog. Love the name. And, an excellent start on that painting.
August 15, 2009 at 12:12 pm |
Oh, what a wonderful diversion–and what joy and unconditional love dogs bring to our lives. Enjoy!

Cloud is totally a cool animal. It’s no wonder the work was on the back burner.

I’m a bit late to the party here, but happy birthday and what a wonderful gift she is. Good on you too, for your compassion for animals and concern for the spay neuter programs.
